I am in the Media Strategies class at MSTC in Wisconsin Rapids.
I am looking forward to learning as much as I can about the different types of media that a business can utilize.
Good luck in this class.

Question 9 Part A
Marlboro- I used this site for the culture influence. People's culture have a major influence since they are the ones who decide on the values and norms to be used. On the site, they have links for U.S. customers and links for European customers. Culture could definitely influence consumers due to the values they believe in. For example, maybe the product is illegal in one country and not another. Culture is a major influence because of the different values and norms they followed. In addition, businesses have to watch out how they advertise so they do not disrespect any of the different cultures they are selling their products to.
Fleet Farm- I used Fleet Farm for my subculture influence. Subcultures also influence purchases because of age, race, ethnic beliefs. Soemone who was really into their ethnic beliefs might not hunt, so they wouldn't worry about going to Fleet Farm. On their website, it appears to be geared towards men. However, that could be deceiving since there are plenty of women who enjoy sports just as much as men. In this case, subcultures influence purchases because if someone wasn't into sports, they wouldn't even consider going into the store.
Hot Topic- I used this site for the social class influence. Social class influences buying power because of lifestyles, interests, and norms. For example, if you attended an all girls school and had to wear uniforms, you would most likely not shop at Hot Topic. There site was definitely for teenagers. There were two teen girls standing side by side with basically the same look. I believe the way their friends look has a major influence on marketing decisions. If a person's friend didn't like an outfit, the person wouldn't buy it even though they themselves liked it. They would choose to like everyone else than themselves; they wouldn't want to be judged negatively. Most of the consumers who shop at Hot Topic would most likely be in the upper or middle classes due to the higher priced products. In addition, it all has to do with the groups teenagers hang out with.
Nike- I chose this company for the reference group influence. Reference groups can influence buying power because if someone was really into a specific celebrity and they were the spokesperson for a company, people would be more apt to buy from that store than any other. When navigating throughout the site, it made me think they were gearing their products to people who enjoyed sports. On their website they use different sports celebrities, which I believe can influence people to buy or not buy their products. However, it could backfire if a consumer doesn't like or know the celebrity. This type of group (sports fanatics) would be considered an aspirational reference group because the people have things in common.
David's Prom- this website was definitely a good example for situational determinants. Situational determinants can influence buying power because of the reasons the product can be used for. They are mostly geared towards teenage girls going to proms or other dances. However, the products they sell could be used for other occasion, such as weddings. Situational determinants influence consumers' purchases because no one going to a prom, dances, or weddings would buy these products. In this situation, consumers would be utilizing "usage" since it deals with the way the product will be used.
